Course Content

Monopoly and price discrimination. An introduction to game theory. Models of oligopoly. General equilibrium theory and welfare economics: (i) Equilibrium in pure exchange economies: Pareto optimality and the core, competitive equilibrium, utility possibility set, social welfare functions, first and second welfare theorems; (ii) Equilibrium in production: production-oriented models, production version of welfare theorems. Externalities and public goods.

Course Objective and Fulfillments to be obtained by Students

 

The aim of this course is to cover at an advanced level the fundamental themes of microeconomic theory. Students successfully completing this course should be able to analyze the characteristics of different market structures, and demonstrate their understanding of general equilibrium theory, externalities and public goods.
