The aim of this course is to
introduce students, at an intermediate level, to the fundamental concepts and
techniques of microeconomic analysis. This course also aims to train students
to the point where they can handle specialist courses in economics (for

international economics) in their third year. Upon completion of the course,
students should be able to demonstrate their understanding of: (i) The characteristics of different market structures and
their implications for the behavior of the firm; (ii) The basics concepts and
issues in general equilibrium theory and welfare economics; and (iii) The
nature of market failures other than imperfect competition such as
externalities, public goods and information asymmetries. |
